Nintendo?
Its just Mario Kart that is priced at $80, DK is priced at $70 based off preorders on retailer sites so I expect $70 to be the standard price for switch 2 games(and... everywhere else for AAA releases)... and potentially a $10 upcharge for physical carts(which I will pay over going digital).
I assume MK is including track updates and such in its price so its not a DLC purchase this time to justify its higher price tag
I plan on getting a switch 2 eventually, it might end up delaying my pickup of Metroid Prime 4 though since I will play it on switch 2. Other franchises I will be watching for are Zelda, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. Won't get anything third party unless its an exclusive IP with no chance of going to PC.
will debate the upgraded version purchases for the games that have them(hopefully they are optional for extra content since some games are going over for free).
hoping switch 1 pro controllers will work with switch 2, the new controller has no must have feature for function after all.

For the most part it looks like Switch 1 controllers will work on Switch 2. This is according to their website.

yay, won't need to replace my pair of pro controllers then... will consider a special edition... if I can manage to snag one....
been wanting a xenoblade one for a while and I refuse to pay the scalper price... the supposed restock at walmarts either sold out immediately or didn't happen near me :/

No thanks I am not paying £499 for a handheld with no games
Comment has been collapsed.
don't consider it just a handheld, its a full console in its own right if you dock it.
but yea the launch excitement isn't near as high as the original switch was. No big massive game release to draw in launch buyers either. Doubt Metroid Prime 4 will be out on launch since its not dated yet.

Got an e-mail from Sega about having games for the Switch not one was a new game (well at least 3 were 100% already older games) I mean Yakuza 0 really hasn't everyone who wanted to played it already - oh you added a English dub - everyone seams to hate English dubs for Japaneses games/anime
Comment has been collapsed.
I personally do. I NEVER use an english dub with japanese games/anime. Currently playing Yakuza 5, with japanese voices. Why would I EVER play YAKUZA in english?

It's $449 is the price of the console by itself. The $499 price is for a bundle that comes with a game.

I think Nintendo can go fuck themselves over. Even their games are good they're certainly not essential to my daily life. I can very well live on without them.
You know what Diogenes said about learning to live eating lentils to not have to live being subservient to a king? It's pretty much the same thing here, except lentils in this case is a gigantic amount of other games to play instead of Nintendo ones. And that's not even taking into account many other ways to entertain oneself. Also Nintendo is more like a filthy greedy scammer than a king.

Sure thing but Sony takes the spotlight when it comes to greed out of the 3 big console brands.
Xbox done f'ed up with xbox one, they got humbled and never caught up to what they were in the 360 era. They are the most consumer friendly of the 3, yes they are no saints but i feel like the brand xbox in itself, despite being part of microsoft, is not the worst here, it used to be the worst for a brief moment with the xone release.
Nintendo has always been the "butt tight" of the trio. As of late, Sony as managed to trade blows with Nintendo for this title.
Sony, they were great for ps1 and ps2 gens, ps3 they screwed up with the pricing but overall the generation was great, ps4 they had the spotlight and made fun of xbox for their oopsie but near the end of the ps4 generation things started changing aggressively to an anti consumer approach.
Console gaming is IMO dead. Each brand needs to adapt pc gaming into a console-like approach, while also maintaining everything there was in consoles on the pc side of things. If i have a sony account with digital games, these games should be playable on future sony hardware that resembles a pc + console approach.
In the end, you are still right though. They can go f themselves. I bought a switch v2 for 200€, used, with 5 games and some 3rd party extras like carry case, protection kit and grips, also a code for online access that was unused by the previous owner. This was when oled was released, i bought this thing mostly for pokemon but i haven't used it that much. Steam deck makes the switch almost useless. Switch 2 will follow the same path, i will buy it from used market when i find a decent deal and games will be half price on sale. Or i will skip it and simply just stick with pc handhelds, emulation is a possibility if the hardware doing it is capable of delivering the necessary power to emulate a console, steam deck can emulate the switch, so i assume the switch 2 will be more of the same for pc handhelds with higher performance than the deck.

Nintendo is an Island company. I don't care about their games anymore.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmm. I’m also against the price increase, but since I haven’t bought any Nintendo games for over ten years, I’m not in a position to complain. If games become higher quality, it's inevitable that development costs will rise. However, we have Steam. Let’s play on Steam.
By the way, when purchasing Japanese games in the U.S., is there a 24% tariff (from Japan) applied to the games...?
Comment has been collapsed.
These tariffs are tied to physical goods, so a retailer importing boxed games directly from Japan would have to pay, but if a U.S. publisher can make/copy the carts in the U.S. then the fact that royalties would be paid to a Japanese developer would not result in tariffs. Digital releases would not be affected either.

Since it's rare to meet an English-speaking native Japanese, I'll ask you. Which of the consoles do the Japanese use more, Sony's or Nintendo's? Since you say you haven't bought games on the latter in over a decade, perhaps you use the other one console more? Or do you prefer to play games on PC? (Which I've heard is not very popular in Japan)

Actually, I can't speak English at all. I rely on machine translation for everything.
Well, I can't speak English but I can answer your questions.
I was given a PC when I was in junior high school(20-25years ago), and I haven't touched a consumer console since then.
I think the last game console I bought was a PS1, Dreamcast, or Xbox 360.
I love Steam, and I only play games on my PC.
But I think I'm in the minority.
Around me, I only see people who play social games on their smartphones or on PlayStation.
I think this is probably a marketing strategy by Sony or Nintendo.
There are many cases where Japanese games cannot be purchased in Japan on Steam.
I think they are preventing games from being played on PC in order to sell consumer devices.
(Recently, the number of games that can be purchased from Japan has gradually increased. However, there are still many keys that cannot be activated in Japan only.)
Comment has been collapsed.
I never bought any Nintendo console or game so I don't see why I would start now that they've become extra pricey, specially knowing that us third worlders will probably have to pay like 50% more than in first world countries. But even then the sheer balls on Nintendo to price their handheld that close to the range of a handheld PC, specially when Valve, Asus, or any other could turn around and match their price-tag with a better product; if their little gamble fails it could fail miserably.
Although it was fun seeing Sega poking fun at them by pointing out that their upcoming mascot racer is releasing on all platforms, including the original Switch. I imagine they must have been a bit salty when they heard that it's called Mario Kart World when theirs is named Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, after all both companies are supposed to be in good terms these days and picking a subtitle that similar must have felt like a backstab.
Comment has been collapsed.
They make decent games, but not decent enough to be worth more than anyone else in the competition, and not outstanding enough to be worth buying an exclusive console, and no excuse to not post them on pc of all platforms when they are coded there. Nintendo and the switch/2 are trash and have become greedier than anyone in the competition, it's disgusting. For that reason, Barbara is out.

None of today's self-proclaimed superpowers can afford to export or import, grow leisure time and enjoy the game.🙄
After all, I can envision a slow transition amidst a roar of condemnation when the topic of only being able to play games on new hardware comes up.
🤔<Can't wait for the time when there is no labor exploitation scam tool called earth money?
Wonder if people have a hobby of fighting rather than getting along when they have enough time and ..to live.
Culture and art come from ample leisure time and a generous lifestyle.
It is interesting to see the period of countries that had such “leisure” in their lives.
But things have been going wrong for about a quarter of a century.
But I'll leave it at that, since I naturally don't have a Nintendo Switch or 2 and have no plans to buy one.😅

Please link to Youtube by granting a brief description as much as possible.
Some videos are not available in some countries, so it is difficult to reply.😅
Also, you might want to post your own opinion instead of replying to my post.
For those who haven't opened the link, it is a video of a certain country's president when he was young.
The other thing is that this Switch 2 seems to have become difficult to pre-order in the US.
All I can say is that there is more than one self-proclaimed superpower, so I'm sure there will be more similar stories 🤔.

I like Nintendo games (particularly Metroid and Splatoon), but not so much the company itself. They always seem to be looking for new ways to screw or ignore their customers.
Also, I'm 100% physical on game consoles (don't trust their online ecosystems), and between Nintendo releasing tons of DLC for some games and then never releasing complete physical carts, all while keeping prices high for the incomplete versions, I often don't feel like it's even worth buying some Nintendo games in the first place.

+1 Not paying $80 for a freaking Kart Racer, it's max 6 hours of fun before complete boredom.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think I've had played any Kart Racer over 8 hours of total gameplay.
There's only so much you can enjoy before it's just stale.
The price tag on launch is absurd for just a kart racing game.

Never had a Switch, but I'll pick up a Switch 2 at some point, so I can finally play all the Bayonetta games and a few others. Not a fan of the game prices, but it is what it is. Nintendo being Nintendo. The backward compatibility is a gigantic plus. I wouldn't even consider getting one if it didn't have BC.

I had a Switch and Mario Odyssey was great. Breath of the Wild was nice, but the breaking mechanic really didn't click with me. Not going to buy a Switch 2 (especially not for 500 bucks), but I keep an eye out if any really neat game comes out for it that might make me buy it later for a lower price.

Bloodborne 2 with a rebrand since $ony won't let them use the name, will be a system seller.
If it is one of the Switch 2 game bundle options, then I'll probably do so. If not, then I'll wait.
Either way, $70 is already a non-starter for me, for any game. Actually, $60 was already a non-starter as well outside of two very specific games (Elden Ring/Baldur's Gate 3). $80 is a hell no. My FOMO is not even close to being that strong.

Duskbloods is an 8-player PvPvE multiplayer game. It is match based. It is not a Bloodborne successor.

I'm on two lists to pre-order but I'm not really interested in one for myself. I'll just use being a good customer in these stores to make others happy. Not as a scalper.
I won't bother to own one. Since I got my Deck I haven't touched my Switch even once. Not for the latest Zelda game or anything else. Right now only Metroid would have potential to make me weak again.
But the hardware seems pretty solid. If Nintendo finally manages 4k in docked mode, I can't wait what a Deck 2 will achieve in the future.

I don't think valve is going to make a steam deck 2, they will make a handheld but it will be different and i don't expect to see any of this untill like 2027 the earliest.
The recent "leaks" or "rumours" about possible hardware within steam seem to be all test projects, so whatever valve has planned ahead for hardware, it will take sometime to see something new again. I assume the next thing we will see is half life 3, or the continuation of half life 2, along with a new piece of hardware or two that could (or not) be connected to each other directly.
Their best best going forward IMO, is to create new innovative hardware, that could connect with previous hardware, this would make a family of devices that could in general help each other achieve higher goals and stronger performance together. Since they have a deck and a basic dock, they could focus on making a specialized dock that would act as an APU upgrade to the deck as an attachment but could also be used to sit the deck on a desk and use it as a desktop device.
Or creating a new controller with no display but has an APU incorporated in it, so you plug the controller to a display and it acts like a computer. Basically what i call a handheld with no display. Then having attachments created for this controller, like a small display, for people wanting a handheld experience, some VR glasses for those wanting something different, or just stick with the controller and plug it to a tv or monitor and go play some games.
Also, dropping the switch after owning a deck is normal behaviour for majority of people that have both. You can also almost 100% negate the switch's existance by emulating it on the deck, the only thing you would be lacking is the online portion of things.

I'm pretty sure that there will be a new handheld from Steam. I also don't expect it anytime soon, after all Valve openly discussed that it will only happen after a bigger jump in available technology.
Different it will be but it won't offer any less features than the current Deck, that's for sure. As these are now the standards, established not only by the Deck.
I seriously doubt your idea about it building upon existing Deck hardware. Not only does it make little sense to make dated subpar hardware your handicapped foundation, it also would require from all future customers to buy whatever new hardware they release AND a Deck. They'd have no chance to compete on the market.

I've got 3 switches in my house between the main OLED and two switch lites the kids play on. I was really looking forward to the switch 2 but with the price I'm just not sure. My general rule as to whether a console is worth it is if the cost of exclusives games I want to play on it is equal or more to the cost of the console and it will be a while to get there even with the higher cost of the games. Mario kart looks good and the DK game will probably be fun, but nothing else looks essential at this point. If I had the money I'd much rather drop it on a steam deck, as I've already got plenty of games to play then, and I'll always be able to get the new games on good specials in the future, whereas Nintendo never drops it's exclusives price by more than 35% or so.
So yeah, it's a pity, I'm sure the kids would love to play on it, but it might only be viable in a couple of years. I suspect that this one is never going to reach the same sales of its predecessor, especially as a big part of the success came in the form of the pandemic and people sitting playing Animal crossing.
On the plus side it's probably going to be a good time to pick up second hand switches and games as people dump their old ones to buy the new. So I might be able to grab some things I don't have yet.

They make Sony and M$ look like angels in comparasion. Always overcharging and nickle and diming their outdated tech, their cheap looking games that ride on nostalgia above anything else and they might as well be in stone age when it comes to software side of their tech.

Because they are like 100x better than any cartoon race/party game on Steam lol
Mario Kart 8? Lasted 2 console gens.

I read nintendo is holding off sending preorders to US because of the tariff thing.
Personally i got a modded switch (not really played much on it to be honest, same as my steamdeck) i would get a modded switch 2 if i could especially with those new prices but after the massive lawsuits i doubt that's gonna be easy.
And with the switch 1 i was already tired of another mario kart, mario party, smash, zelda etc like come up with something really new nintendo.

I don't mind at all. If anything, I will feel better.
if it is not on steam, I feel great emulating it.
Cause I realized seeing those prices, man that I don't give a damn about the morality of emulation or what companies are gonna try painting it as. It is what it is.
When I was a kid, I didn't realize what playing with emulation meant, just played pokemon games.
Now I ain't a kid, I now know for sure what emulation is and I am 100% gonna keep doing it.

Indies are definitely never going to raise prices so at least that's some consolation.
GTA6 is probably going to be about 75$ on release which is understandable for a game that massive and for such a beloved franchise. Anything else is a guessing game. In the next few years I'd argue we're pretty safe, apart from super massive AAA releases, since studios are a bit apprehensive to price their games any higher as of right now and the only studios let off the hook for now are Rockstar and Nintendo.
70-80$ for a AAA is kind of a rip-off and I think many people will be put off of buying a Switch2 just because of this pricing model.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was a Nintendo kid. These new games look SUPER fun, but there's no world where they're worth $80. If the pricing was more reasonable, I would probably be crawling back onto the Switch bandwagon. Alas.

You want Nintendo games on Steam? Too bad, you can't get them there, hehe. They are only on Switch, etc. Anyway, it seems that they announced that new games like Maro Kart for the Switch 2 will be 80 bucks. Do you think this is the new standard price of games, or is Nintendo just being themselves? How do u feel about the upcoming stuff?
