Tango gamework has made four quite solid highlyreviewed games. Evil within 1, 2 ghostwire Tokyo and high-fin rush.

I guess due to economic decline?

Unfortunately, both Ghostwire Tokyo and Hi-fi Rush sold quite poorly. I am guessing the same applies to Evil Within 2, since there were no plans for a sequel. Sad, because they were really good games, but I guess their audience was a bit too niche.

Humble choice games make a fraction of their store price through humble sales, so not sure what you mean?

Game studio being closed down, so let's just flog it to death. I wasn't talking about money at all.

That humble contract was likely signed months ago, I don't think the studio knew about the closure at that time.

Funny thing is Xbox was saying just a year ago that Hi-Fi Rush surpassed their expectations (https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/1649431572137779203).

Honestly this just seems shortsighted - Tango was profitable in a year MS was profitable, and a year where pretty much all of Xbox's critical and commercial success came from studios under Bethesda's umbrella. Scrapping them just because they're not going to be as profitable this fiscal year isn't a great way to build confidence in the brand.

It seems other sources said that it didn't make whatever money Microsoft wanted. Sad really, maybe dropping it on GamePass day one was not the best idea after all..

Shinji Mikami did Evil Within 1/2 and produced Ghostwire (which Ikumi directed) and Hi-Fi Rush (which John, directed). Unfortunately only John was left at the studio, both Shinji and Ikumi went on to fund new studios. So, technically the people that did those games left. And John alone wasn't convincing enough for Microsoft to keep funding the studio. I still think, they could have at least given John a chance at it alone before closing it.

i also looked it up, he left like a year ago.
i like Shinji Mikami, he just follows wherever he feels he could fund another project. Seems like he might still be considering joining Suda for a new game as well.

However, with a game like hi fi rush, it really feels like the studio could have been in good hands.

Yeah, they really should have given John a chance on his own, at least one chance smh.

Crazy how microsoft forced Arkane into making a game nobody wanted and then closed them after its failure.

I think they were working on the game for a few years before Microsoft, so it was Bethesda who forced them.

Arkane Austin is part of arkane, they still have Lyon.
In fact i think they might just be giving up on games like redfall, they will likely relocate this team to the fallout/ES machine, and keep arkane austin around for niche titles

For me, Prey (2017) is one of the best things I had the honor to play. I have to give it a second playthrough someday.

Prey was such an amazing immersive sim, I loved exploring the ship, and the engaging with enemies, even reading the text logs and messages was interesting.

We were taking recently about Sony's absurd decisions and now it's Microsoft's turn. (and then there's Embracer selling Gearbox)

I would not be surprised if Warner stated they won't sell AAA games anymore and will focus on GaaS and mobile games.

Oh wait, I think they did.

I mean Embracer selling Gearbox was pretty good, at least they don’t have to go down with that sinking ship.

that's good considering the studio's fate.

It's not for Embracer , who sold it 460 M while they purchased it first at 1.4B

Why did they close hi fi rush game studio? That was the only good exclusive beside Forza that sold well for Microsoft

It seems, according to other sources it didn't sell well. But I wonder how the even measured that, considering it was on GamePass...

I can't say I'm surprised. Micro$oft is obviously on an acquisition/concentration rampage and I wasn't expecting them to keep everyone employed and happy.
They are absorbing studios, acquiring IPs, sucking the marrow out of every companies and spitting out the rest.
Typical of this kinda of bender really.
Even the EU has bowed down to the campaign of gaming domination that M$ started so I guess we can only hope someone remains in the end to give them some competition.

To be fair, Shinji Mikami left the studio after finishing Hi-Fi Rush, then founded Kamuy Inc. where most of the staff went to. And Ikumi Nakamura had already left as well, so, the studio was basically BioWare 2.0 (Reputation plus name, but literally no director), but, instead of giving them funds to flop a game, they just closed it, because the talent had already left... Well, John Johanas did get shafted, but, without Shinji, I imagine they didn't want to support the studio anymore.

And Arkane Austin had their closure coming from a mile away, it still suck thou, because Hi-Fi Rush was a great game, and its creator (John) was still on the company.

So much for Microshaft being supposedly happy with Hi-Fi Rush. And they were also aware of Redfall being a dumpster fire in the making & still gave the green light to release it instead of scrapping it like Arkane Austin wanted. But,as per usual, its the studios that pay the price for publisher stupidity.
Just another in the gaming industry,I suppose.

predictable - they only need id software (best fps engine in the world), fallout and elder scrolls franchise

Idc, Tango is the only big loss IMO as any talented guys from Austin should be able to be absorbed into main Arkane if they want.
Am more interested whether MS will take the axe to Activision. That I wanna see.

Closing Tango is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen
Also, if they are "focusing on their main games" I guess we will never see a The Evil Within 3 ever.

Besides reports are them being 'generous' of silently allowing a few month extra on top of one year.
